In recent years, the environment surrounding universities has changed dramatically, increasing pressure to maintain and enhance research capacity and international competitiveness. In response to these challenges, our university established the NITech Frontier Institutes in fiscal year 2022. Operating with a structure in which faculty members directly supervise doctoral students, the Institutes pursue three core pillars: the development of early‑career researchers, the promotion of international collaborative research, and the advancement of interdisciplinary research.
Through the “Intergrated Research” project, we support the creation of interdisciplinary teams that bring together researchers from high‑priority fields — such as AI and data science, materials and energy, and environment and decarbonization — to create new research domains. Each team includes doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, ensuring that young researchers are actively engaged in cutting-edge work while developing practical research skills and an international perspective.
To promote international collaboration, we invite overseas researchers, host symposia, and develop online platforms for joint research. As international exchange recovers in the post-COVID era, we are also establishing diverse models of collaboration that can flexibly adapt to geopolitical shifts and funding constraints. In addition, invited lectures and workshops for graduate students and early‑career researchers provide valuable opportunities for direct interaction and learning.
The NITech Frontier Institutes will continue to serve as a research hub where faculty members, students, and researchers from diverse backgrounds collaborate to benefit both local and global communities. We sincerely appreciate your continued support.
