Prof. Luis Miguel CORREIA is an Architect, Professor at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Science and Technology (DARQ) of the University of Coimbra (UC), where he currently serves as Director, and researcher at the Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares (CEIS20) and the Centre for Studies in Architecture: from Territory to Design (ceARQ:TD) of UC. He graduated in Architecture from DARQ in 1994 and completed a Master’s degree in 2008 at the Department of Civil Engineering of UC with the dissertation Castles in Portugal: Portrait of their architectural profile [1509-1949], which was published in 2010 by the University of Coimbra Press. In 2016, he obtained a Doctorate from UC with the thesis Monuments, Territory and Identity in the Estado Novo: From the Definition of a Project to the Memorialization of a Legacy. As an architect, professor, and researcher, he has placed particular emphasis on the practice of design and the relationships it establishes with related fields of architecture—especially history, theory, and drawing—and on their critical analysis and contribution to knowledge production. Within these disciplinary contexts, his research has focused on heritage and the connections that its material and immaterial dimensions establish with territory, landscape, and notions of identity. In 2001, he co-founded the collective COMOCO ARQUITECTOS with Nelson Mota and Susana Constantino. His projects and works have been published and exhibited in collective and individual exhibitions in Portugal and abroad.
In July 2026, Prof. CORREIA will be invited to NITech by Prof. Hamada for collaboration in research of -Preservation and Utilization of Historic Buildings and Castle Stone Walls.
