Prof. Duran is a Full Professor in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Turkey. He received his B.Sc. degree from Middle East Technical University (Metallurgical Engineering), Türkiye in 1994, and M.Sc. degree from Gebze Institute of Technology, Türkiye in 1996 and Ph.D. degree from the Pennsylvania State University (PSU, Materials Science and Engineering-Ceramic Science), the USA in 2001. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at PSU from 2001 to 2002. He was a visiting scientist at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (Advanced Sintering Technology Group, Japan) from 2003 to 2005, and Case Western Reserve University and NASA Glenn Research Center (Ceramics Branch, Cleveland, OH, The USA) from June to September 2014. He was a Technology Research Leader and Underwater Acoustic System Engineering Manager at the Meteksan Savunma (Defense) Sanayii A.Ş. (Turkey) from 2010 to 2013. He also run MSE Teknoloji Ltd. from 2007 to 2010 as a co-founder. He is currently a Professor at the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in Türkiye since 2013.

In February 2024, Prof. Duran was invited to NITech for Joint Research on Structural and functional ceramics by Associate Prof. Takashi Shirai.
