Prof. Hafner is a Professor in Department of Energy and Process Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. Currently, he is charge in a President of the Norwegian Society of Refrigeration and a Vice-President of International Institute of Refrigeration, Commission D1. He has published about 200 international and national publications within area of refrigeration and process engineering.

In October 2023, Prof. Hafner was invited to NITech for Joint Research on Interdisciplinary education and research platform in cold-chain of fish: from Norway to Japan hosted by Prof. Masanori Nakamura and Associate Prof. Yuhiro Iwamoto.
